Digital reading

In Pisa 2009 for the first time the reading of digital texts was tested by an electronic reading assessment (ERA).

The advance of digitization and the corresponding increase in digital texts have had a great influence on the way people read in the last 10 years. There are good reasons to believe that the specific features of digital texts (especially their dynamic character compared to the static nature of the texts in print media) require specific word processing skills.

The ERA survey wants to test in detail skills of young people in dealing with, understanding, evaluating and integrating digital texts in order to get an accurate picture of their digital literacy.
